I’d like to talk about a childhood friend of mine named Vicky. We’ve known each other since primary school. Interestingly, our moms were also high school classmates, and our families lived quite close to each other, so we naturally spent a lot of time together when we were young. I still remember the days when we used to play in the park near our community almost every afternoon after school.
However, things changed a bit when we got older. In middle school, I started to feel that I didn’t really like her that much. I thought she cared too much about her appearance and acted a bit fake. For example, she never wore the school uniform and always showed up in trendy clothes, which made her stand out too much in my opinion.
But over time, I realized she was actually very genuine and had her own sense of style and identity. We got closer again and became really good friends. Later in high school, she went to study in the UK while I stayed in China. Our lives started to become quite different, especially as we were exposed to different cultures. But surprisingly, this made our friendship even stronger, because we were able to understand and respect each other's views better.
She often shared stories about daily life in the UK — like how people love reading, enjoy afternoon tea, and are generally very polite. I found those stories fascinating, especially because back then, the internet wasn’t as developed as it is now, so I didn’t know much about life abroad.
Now, she’s doing her master’s in photography at UCL and has even shot magazine photos for some well-known celebrities. I really admire her for following her passion and turning it into a career. I feel lucky to have such a childhood friend, and I truly hope she continues to succeed.
