I’d like to talk about a time when I received money as a gift from my dad. It was on June 1st last year, which is actually Children’s Day in China. That day, my dad sent me a message and transferred some money to my account. Along with it, he said “Happy Children’s Day.”
I am in Canada, while my parents are back in China. Since I had graduated and started working, I didn’t talk to them as often as before. I had become more independent and responsible, and I no longer relied on them financially. I always tried to show them that I could handle things on my own — like paying rent and covering my living expenses in Canada without asking for any help.
So, when I got that message and the money from my dad, I was actually very touched. It reminded me that no matter how old I grow, I’ll always be a child in my parents’ eyes. It was a really heartwarming feeling.
Back then, I was being much more careful with money. Compared to when I was a student, I now had to think twice before buying anything, even something as small as a piece of clothing. So, I decided to use the money from my dad to buy myself a cake that I had been wanting for a long time. It was a small treat, but it made me really happy.
Honestly, that was probably the most memorable time I received money as a gift in my adult life. It wasn’t about the amount — it was about the love and care behind it.
