Last Sunday, I was hanging out with a friend at a cafe in downtown Toronto. We were enjoying some croissants and chatting about life. I told her that I had been feeling really stressed lately — preparing for exams, dealing with a lot of projects at work, and sometimes even working overtime from home.
While we were talking, I got a phone call. You know, because of data leaks and scams in Canada, I usually don’t answer calls from unknown numbers — even if the area code is 647, which is local. But the same number called me three times in a row. So I said to my friend, “Sorry, let me take this call quickly.”
A woman’s voice said, “Hi, are you Esther? My name is Monica.” I was a bit confused and said, “Sorry, who’s this?” She replied, “I’m your personal training coach. You booked a session with me today at 1 p.m. at GoodLife Fitness — Yonge and Dunfield.”
I was shocked. I quickly looked at my watch — it was already 1:15! I felt so embarrassed. I apologized and explained that I’d been really busy lately and totally forgot about the session. When I made my monthly to-do list, I guess I forgot to include that training appointment.
Thankfully, she was very kind and said, “No worries, we can just reschedule for next week.” I really appreciated her understanding.
This experience taught me a lesson — I need to be more organized and check my emails and calendar more carefully. It was a bit awkward but also kind of funny. Definitely a memorable moment of getting a call from a stranger in a public place.
From this experience, I learned that I need to manage my time better and check my emails and calendar more often. It was quite an awkward but unforgettable experience of missing an appointment. 失约
