One of my favorite people to talk with is my roommate Rosie. We met in the summer of 2021 when I responded to a room rental ad she posted online. Before that, we were complete strangers. I was nervous at first because a good roommate makes a big difference in rental life. But now I can confidently say I was very lucky to meet her.

We talk a lot—about everything. From serious topics like career planning or future goals, to casual things like what to eat for dinner. Rosie works in a bank as a financial advisor, and she’s super smart. When I ask her about financial products or investments, she always gives me clear answers with accurate numbers—interest rates, cashback percentages, savings plans—like she’s got a calculator in her brain!

One thing I remember clearly is when I almost got scammed while trying to buy a second-hand camera. I was about to send money to a seller who offered a camera at a suspiciously low price. Rosie saw me preparing the payment and stopped me just in time. She told me to ask for a video test and more details. It turned out the lens had serious issues, and I would’ve wasted my money. She always thinks of things I miss.

I really think I’m lucky to have such a smart and thoughtful roommate. She makes my rental life in Canada much more enjoyable. I love spending time with her. I love talking to her—she always teaches me something new or helps me understand life from a different angle.

2. 聪明的人（A Smart Person You Know）

One of the smartest people I know is my roommate Rosie. We’ve been living together since 2021. She works as an investment advisor at a bank. That alone tells you she’s pretty clever, right? But it’s not just her job title—it’s how she solves problems and thinks ahead that really impresses me.

One time, I got super excited because I found someone online selling my dream second-hand camera for an unusually cheap price. I was about to send the money when Rosie walked in and asked me what I was doing. She immediately said, “Wait! That sounds fishy.” She told me to ask for a test video and the reason for the low price. It turned out the lens had defects, which the seller didn’t mention. Thanks to Rosie, I avoided wasting my money.

She’s also very calm and analytical. Whenever there are issues with our landlord, she’s the one who communicates clearly and ensures we’re treated fairly. And when I talk to her about my future career or financial stress, she gives me useful advice—not just textbook stuff, but practical suggestions that make sense.

喜欢种植物的人（A Person Who Likes Growing Plants）

My roommate Rosie is the first person who comes to mind when I think about someone who loves growing plants. Our condo has a balcony, and it’s filled with all kinds of plants—orchids, chrysanthemums, even onions! It’s like a mini garden in the sky. All the plants are taken care of by Rosie. She says taking care of them helps her relax after work.

She works at a bank, so her weekdays can be really busy and stressful. But every weekend, I see her happily trimming leaves, repotting plants, or just sitting on the balcony reading next to her flowers. Some of the plants are even “adopted”—like gifts from coworkers who couldn’t take care of them or from friends leaving the country.

Every November, she goes back to China for a vacation, and she always asks me to water the plants while she’s away. At first, I didn’t really enjoy it. I wasn’t into plants. But gradually, I started finding joy in it. It felt like I was taking care of her little green pets. Especially when the sun shines on them and they look so alive—I feel a sense of peace. I even learned that her orchid blooms every November—just in time for her birthday.

I really think I’m lucky to have such a good roommate. She makes my rental life in Canada much more enjoyable. I love spending time with her. I love talking to her—she always teaches me something new or helps me understand life from a different angle.

喜欢做手工的人（A Person Who Enjoys Handicrafts）

My roommate Rosie is someone who truly enjoys handicrafts. She has a creative side, even though she works in finance. She’s always making something with her hands—drawing, painting, or building little decorations for our home.

One day she came home with a bag of clay she bought from Dollarama and said she wanted to try sculpting. That evening, she made a small clay puppy because she knew I love dogs. She gave it to me as a gift, and I still keep it on my desk. It makes me smile every time I see it.

She also paints canvas art. I’ve seen her recreate the Toronto skyline during sunset using only brushes and paints. Her sense of color is amazing. It’s hard to believe she works with numbers during the day but becomes an artist at night.

She told me that doing crafts makes her feel calm and fulfilled. I think that’s why her life seems so balanced—she works hard, but also knows how to enjoy life and express herself. Watching her do all these things inspired me to try small DIY projects too.

5. 喜欢共度时光的人（A Person You Enjoy Spending Time With）

The person I enjoy spending time with most is my roommate Rosie. We’ve been living together for several years now, and we’ve built a great relationship. Even though we were total strangers before moving in, we now treat each other like family.

She works as a financial advisor, which keeps her pretty busy. But she always makes time to connect. Sometimes we cook together, or just sit in the living room and chat. She tells me stories from work or shares her thoughts on books she’s reading. I share my frustrations and funny moments too. We talk a lot—about everything. She also has a lot of hobbies like painting and gardening, and she often invites me to join her. That makes our home feel like more than just a place to live—it feels warm and meaningful. And whenever I face a challenge or get too stressed, she’s always there to listen and comfort me.
