An ambition you haven’t achieved yet
One ambition that I haven’t achieved yet but I really want to accomplish is to take my mother on a trip around the world.
When I was in middle school, my parents got divorced. Since then, I’ve been living with my mom. She’s a strong and hardworking single mom. She worked so hard to support me and helped me get into the University of Toronto when I was 18. After that, she also encouraged me to continue my education at Toronto Film School. I’m really thankful for everything she has done for me.
My mother is almost fifty years old now, but she hasn’t travelled abroad except for a short trip to Hong Kong. I know she loves traveling. When I was in elementary school and my parents were still together, she didn’t have to work and joined lots of outdoor clubs. She went hiking, climbed snowy mountains, and even rode bicycles around big lakes. She’s very adventurous and always told me: “A life full of challenges is the most interesting one.”
I set a goal to take her traveling abroad before she turns 55. She knows about this and even promised to stay healthy for the trip by exercising regularly! I’ve been working and saving money little by little. I want to take her to Iceland to see volcanoes, to Peru for the Amazon rainforest, or maybe to France to see the Louvre. I want to show her how big and beautiful the world is.
This is my ambition, and I will work hard, save money, and make it come true one day.
A promise you made to someone
A promise I made and really want to keep is to take my mom on an international trip before she turns 55.
My parents divorced when I was in middle school, and I grew up with my mom. She’s a hardworking single mom who always supported me. She made it possible for me to study at the University of Toronto and later at Toronto Film School. I appreciate her deeply, and I wanted to do something meaningful in return.
When I was in elementary school and my parents were still together, she didn’t have to work and joined lots of outdoor clubs. She went hiking, climbed snowy mountains, and even rode bicycles around big lakes. She’s very adventurous and always told me: “A life full of challenges is the most interesting one.”
So I made her a promise—to take her abroad before she turns 55. She laughed and said she’d stay fit to be ready for it! I’ve been saving money and planning. I’d love to take her to see volcanoes in Iceland, or the Amazon rainforest, or maybe to France to visit Louvre. I want to show her how big and beautiful the world is.
I will try my best to keep this promise. I want to give her the kind of experience she gave me—a sense of love and adventure.
Someone who encouraged you to try something interesting
The person who encouraged me to try something interesting is definitely my mom.
When I was in elementary school and my parents were still together, she didn’t have to work and joined lots of outdoor clubs. She went hiking, climbed snowy mountains, and even rode bicycles around big lakes. She’s very adventurous and always told me: “A life full of challenges is the most interesting one.”
Even after my parents divorced and I started living with her, she kept that spirit. She worked very hard as a single mom to support me, but she never stopped encouraging me to try new things. One time during a school break, I was planning a short trip with my friends but had no idea where to go. I asked her for suggestions, and she said, “Why not try snorkeling in Cancun?” I was surprised because I’m actually afraid of fish. But she said, “That’s exactly why you should go.”
At first I didn’t want to, but she kept pushing me. She said I would regret not exploring the beauty of the ocean. So finally, I agreed. When I got there, I was super nervous, but once I put my head under the water, it felt magical. The coral, the sunlight, the colorful fish… it was like a dream. I forgot all my fear.
After that, I realized trying new things isn’t so scary—it can actually be amazing. My mom really changed how I see the world. She always encourages me to say “yes” to new adventures, and that’s helped me grow so much.
I really feel lucky to have such a great mom. She made my life in Canada more meaningful and exciting. I enjoy spending time with her and I love talking to her, because I always learn something new or gain a different perspective from her.
